| Animal lover Kerri Hunter-Woodman regards Noah of biblical
fame as the “ultimate pet sitter.” Kerri has used Noah as her role model
since she began operating her own Philadelphia-based pet sitting business
in 1995. Forced to scale back her business after being diagnosed
with multiple sclerosis in 1998, Kerri began searching for a way to incorporate
her caring for animals and people into a mutually satisfying way. She found
Heifer International.
Kerri, the first inductee into the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters Hall of Fame, challenged friends, coworkers and fellow pet sitters to help her raise $5,000 for a Kerri's Pet Sitters Ark through Heifer. She exceeded her goal and was presented a gift ark plaque in September from Pamela Stone, Heifer International Northeast Region director. |
* Kerri's comments, there were two errors in this article that were not discovered until after the magazine went to press. Kerri's buissness started in 1988, not 1995. The article also neglected that 85% of the money raised for Heiffer by Kerri's was donated through the generosity of Kerri's valued clients.
Heifer Project is helping Afghan refugees in Pakistan by providing essential livestock and training. Read more about their work in Pakistan and Afghanistan and how you can help innocent people fleeing the war.
